Cathay Pacific has today announced the reopening of its ‘The Deck’ lounge in Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). ‘The Deck’ joins the already-reopened ‘The Wing’ First and ‘The Pier’ Business. Excitingly, the airline has also announced that the remainder of its lounge globally will reopen before the last quarter of 2023, including the lovely lounge in Singapore Changi Terminal 4. These announcements comes as Cathay Pacific sees a resumption of travel, especially following Hong Kong’s wider reopening.

The details

The overseas lounge reopenings will be done in phases. Lounges in Singapore and Tokyo Narita will reopen this month (February), with Bangkok following in March and then Manila in April. The remainder – Beijing, San Francisco and Vancouver – will reopen in the second and third quarters of 2023. The reopening of the lounge in Singapore will be great news for Cathay Pacific travellers here. It’s a very nice, which I was able to visit back in 2019. As reported by Executive Traveller, the Singapore lounge will reopen on February 22nd.

According to Cathay, the Tokyo Narita will actually be a new, relocated lounge. The new lounge will be double the size of the old lounge, with new artwork created by local Japanese studios Belle Fleur and the award-winning Arita Porcelain Lab. In addition, the lounges in Bangkok and Manila have also received refurbishments, with enhancements to the décor, furnishings and fixtures.

The airline’s other overseas lounges in London Heathrow (both First and Business), Shanghai Pudong and Tokyo Haneda are already open.

Interestingly, there’s no mention of its lounge in Paris-CDG in this announcement, which is still listed on its website, albeit “Temporarily closed until further notice”. I guess that “temporarily” has or will become permanent.

As for the airline’s fantastic ‘The Pier’ First – which I’ve sadly not had the opportunity to visit yet – and ‘The Wing’ Business in HKIA, these will reopen “within the coming six months”. I’ve only been to both the ‘The Wing’ Business and ‘The Pier’ Business, the latter is brilliant business class lounge, one of the best around for sure.

Conclusion

Cathay Pacific has reopened its ‘The Deck’ lounge in HKIA, and is on track to reopen all its lounges globally by end of third quarter of the year. The Singapore lounge in Terminal 4 will be the first, on February 22nd. Cathay Pacific has some great lounges, so this is great news for anyone travelling on them soon.

Now if only Singapore Airlines would take the cue and start reopening all the overseas SilverKris Lounges…
