Singapore Airlines has launched a Global Redemption Sale, offering KrisFlyer flight redemptions at 25% off. This sale is part of the larger ongoing ‘KrisFlyer Miles Paradise‘ campaign. For a limited time, SIA is offering 25% off Economy Saver redemptions to all destinations, as well as Business Saver and Premium Economy awards to selected destinations. As always, blackout dates and some flight restrictions apply, which I’ll discuss a bit more below.
The details
Firstly, some important dates: the redemption sale runs until 22 September 2024, while travel dates are between 15 January 2025 to 29 May 2025. It should be noted that like the monthly Spontaneous Escapes, changes and canellations are not permitted. Given that travel dates may be anywhere between 4 months to nearly 9 months away, I’d say one’s travel plans better be very firm before partaking in this sale. Personally, I’d be slightly uncomfortable booking anything more than 6months in advance.
For Economy Saver awards, all mainline SIA destinations are on sale. However, most destinations have some blackout dates or restrictions on applicable flights. For both Premium Economy and Business classes, there is a very limited list of destinations that are applicable. In fact, for Premium Economy, only Istanbul, San Francisco (SFO) and New York are available. Business class is generally limited Southeast Asian cities, widebody China points, Hong Kong, several West Asian destinations and perhaps more interestingly, Seoul.
The full list of Economy Saver blackout dates/flights, and applicable Premium Economy and Business Saver destinations can be found here.
My thoughts
The first quarter of the year, which also happens to be SIA’s fiscal 4th quarter, has traditionally tended to be the weakest quarter. Thus, I’m not overly surprised to see SIA try to pump up the load factor a little and get members to dump some of their miles. That in turn takes some financial liability off the balance sheet, since frequent flyer miles held by members are typically unearned or deferred revenue.
This sale is basically a Spontaneous Escapes on steroids, albeit with a slightly lower discount. The wide list of destinations, longer advance purchase and travel periods make up for it. The longer advance purchase period is a double-edged sword, given the no change, no cancel restriction. It definitely is useful for someone who has some firm travel plans in mind. Personally, I don’t see myself taking advantage of the sale at this point, but that might change between now and 22nd Sept (being the end of the sale period).
Conclusion
Singapore Airlines is running a global redemption sale, offering 25% off KrisFlyer redemptions to all destinations for Economy class, and selected destinations for Premium Economy and Business classes. The redemption sale lasts till 22 September 2024, for travel between 15 January 2025 to 29 May 2025. Blackout dates and flight restrictions apply, so be sure to select the correct dates and flights if you’re planning to take advantage of this offer. Do also take note of the no changes and no cancellations policy for these promo awards as well.
